Toe and heel shapes

A pointed toe with a slim heel is the evening mule and lengthens the leg. A square toe with a block heel is the daytime pick and walks comfortably on pavements. Flat mules with a closed almond toe are the easiest to pair with jeans and suit a trip where you want one shoe for everything.

Walking in a mule

Choose your usual size and resist sizing up; a mule that is too long lets the heel slide. Keep the first few wears to short walks so the vamp shapes to your foot. A rubber sole protector on a leather sole gives better grip on polished floors.
